VGGEN.com Is Hiring!
Video Game Generation has grown tremendously since our launch in October 2005, but we need the help of talented writers to continue growing into the very best independent video game site on the 'net. Therefore, we're currently looking for several talented individuals to join our staff!
To be eligible for any position at VGGEN.com, you must:
- Be at least 16 years old.
- Live in the United States of America.
- Be an avid gamer with a strong understanding of the industry, including different platforms, genres, etc.
- Have a strong grasp of the English language in both written and spoken form.
- Have a basic understanding of computers, including use of a browser (which you should have down pat since you're reading this) and a word processor (Word, OpenOffice, etc.) of some sort. A basic understanding of HTML is also helpful, but not required.
- Apply out of a love for video games. Positions are filled on a volunteer basis, but there are some perks in working at VGGEN...
So what exactly are those perks? Well, how about...
- Free review copies. After you've got a bit of work (several published articles) under your belt, you'll have an opportunity to review and keep games publishers send us to review. Sell 'em on eBay, trade them in for store credit, or keep on playing long after the review is finished...we don't care.
- The chance to break into the industry. Working at VGGEN will "get your feet wet" in the online journalism industry. We've worked with several talented individuals that have gone on to work paid positions at major gaming websites (including IGN and Shacknews among others), and they all got their start working somewhere like VGGEN.
- Getting in on the ground floor of something big. We've grown tremendously since our launch on October 1st, 2005, and our ultimate goal is no less than becoming the top independent video game site on the web.
- Valuable experience. Even if you don't want a full-time career in games journalism, you'll still participate in it on a professional level and be exposed to the various technologies and procedures involved in running a website. The experience you'll gain here looks great on a resumé.
- Write about something you love. You like talking about video games, and you want people to know what you think. VGGEN gives you an ever-growing audience to share your opinions with.
What about pay? As VGGEN.com continues to grow we may be able to pay our writers a small salary in the future, but we have no way of knowing if/when that will be. Therefore, please do not apply expecting to receive any form of monetary compensation (aside from the retail value of reviewable hardware and software you may receive), or assistance in buying hardware or software needed to review games for the site. We're just a group of gamers that are passionate about the video game industry, and that's the type of people we're looking to hire.
